Three big clashes with the Narooma Devils resulted favourably for the Eden Tigers, and saw one of the biggest score-lines in a reserve grade game to date.
Eden Tigerettes drew with Narooma Devilettes 12-12
Despite being without Steph Robin, the Tigerettes put on one of their best displays of the season to play level with the Narooma Devilettes.
The Tigerettes have been improving weekly, and it showed in their running and kicking game on Sunday.
Mardi Longford and Ebony Dykhoff-Darrington ran out excellent performances for the home side to land tries.
Meanwhile, Dykhoff-Darrington converted her own and Chelsie Cassie fired the second kick like a bullet between the posts.
Unfortunately for the Tigerettes, Narooma matched them in their kicking, with Jamie-Anne Wright landing a try, and converting both of the visitors’ four-pointers.
Reserve grade Tigers defeated Narooma 72-14
The Tigers’ reserve grade outfit posted one of the highest scores you will see in a Group 16 contest to outdo Narooma by nearly 60 points.
The home side grounded 14 tries to the visitors’ three in its complete domination of the match.
The speedsters of the Tigers were making all the right moves to step around Narooma’s forward pack.
Tyrone Thomas, Morgan Stewart and Alan Aldridge all landed doubles on the day.
Other tries were shared evenly between almost half the Eden squad.
With 14 tries on the board, kicking duties were shared among the Tigers.
Ben Brumby and Ronald Callaghan added three each, while Jack Nicholson kicked one between the posts.
Narooma couldn’t muster much time with the ball to counter Eden’s try-scoring frenzy.
However, leading the way when the visitors did get possession was Yuin Campbell, who planted two tries.
First grade Tigers defeated Narooma 26-24
The first graders held out a strong second half fightback from the Devils to take a two-point win.
The headline first grade match had a dream opening for the home side Tigers.
The regular hard-running forwards worked the ruck like clockwork to allow space for Eden’s tactical backs.
Playing-coach Billy Michelin made decisive runs up the centre with plenty of support from Leigh Hennessey and Tom Henderson.
Ian Smith was also at his usual best with excellent runs and a good kicking game.
Michael Wykes has been a work-horse since returning from injury recently and showed his regular form, by dashing through the Narooma defence to score for the Tigers.
Meanwhile, the club has welcomed the return of Matt Creswick, who also used clever footwork to plant the ball over the line for the home side.
By half time, the Tigers looked unstoppable at 22-8 over the visiting Devils.
However, a lack of possession in the second half saw the Narooma outfit making a strong resurgence.
The Devils were still 12 behind with eight minutes to play, but Jonathan Alley added two for the visiting team.
A missed kick left them two short and the Eden defence held firm to waylay other attacks on the line to win 26-24.
