The club held a special evening ‘Singing for Sue’ on Sunday, June 22 at which $3693.60 was raised to help with Sue’s ongoing care.
Mr Hay said: “About 100 people attended which is fantastic. The funds came from the profits from the bar and the entry fee and lots of people made extra donations. We even played a few games with the kids and they chipped in a dollar or two.”
He said that it was great to see not only members but a lot of the community who aren’t surf life saving club members supporting the event.
Mr Hay added: “I want to thank Andy O’Donnell and his band ‘Figmentz’ who created such a wonderful mood for the occasion, Bidvest Pambula, Wild Rye and the Merimbula News Weekly for helping us out with the publicity. A lot of people said that they had seen the story in the newspaper.”
Sue Cetkovic has been a lifesaver, and one of the special staff at the Bega Women’s Refuge, and Mr Hay said it was the club’s turn to help her.
