A number of yellowfin and dolphin fish were both tagged and released, and caught, during the opening round of the competition.
Organisers are hoping the second round of the event will go ahead next Friday, weather permitting.
If the weather holds, fishing will run from June 27 at 7am until June 30 at 7am.
There will be a briefing at the club’s Spencer Park club room from 7pm on Thursday night, June 26.
Organisers are hopeful an improved weather report will see an increase in the entered number of boats going out.
Yellowfin and sharks are plentiful and that is always a big lure for good entries.
The entry fee is $60 per angler.
The Merimbula Lake is producing good catches of tailor, with lures being the best way to get a bite.
Salmon are also plentiful around the beaches using whitebait or poppers.
The end of the tournament marks the finish to fishing season for the year and that means the club’s presentation night is not too far away.
MBGALAC also thanks everyone who signed its petitions against a proposal for commercial netting of the Merimbula Lake.
Members said it the proposal “was hideous” and it would be a joke if it went ahead.
The club also said it was disappointed to see netting go ahead in surrounding waters the club deemed as “breeding grounds”.
The club rooms at Spencer Park will be open on Friday from 6.30pm.
Head along to catch all the latest info and enjoy a relaxed chat with fellow anglers.
You can’t catch fish from your loungeroom.
