Merimbula based writer and filmmaker, Toni Houston has been selected for the 2014 Hardcopy writer’s development program. Hardcopy is a professional development program, funded by the Australia Council, to assist Australian writers to reach their potential.
Houston’s manuscript, Ship Shaped is a work of fiction, inspired by her own personal experience sailing the high seas on an expedition ship.
“Although the main character Lia is not autobiographical, she is definitely following in my footsteps, in terms of places visited, and challenges encountered in my five years onboard,” explained Toni.
Toni, who first had work published as a teenager, works mainly in short story format, examining the natural world and how it shapes the human condition.
“Ship Shaped is my first novel, and is currently 114,000 words, so a dauntingly huge manuscript in contrast to the tales I normally tell!”
The Hardcopy program consists of two master classes, with tutoring from established publishing industry representatives.
