Fire agencies and land managers have taken advantage of favourable weather conditions to complete a number of important hazard reduction burns across the region this week.

Speaking to the News Weekly, Superintendent John Cullen, from the New South Wales Rural Fire Service (NSWRFS) said that the hazard reduction burns would be carried out only while weather conditions are favourable, such as when air temperatures and wind speeds are low. He said that the forecast indicates a change will come through the area on Wednesday or Thursday. On Monday, May 26, a burn was jointly carried out by RFS and the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NSW NPWS) in the vicinity of Monck’s Hill, near Bournda, while last week another reduction burn was completed at Yellow Pinch. Further burns are planned for later in the week, depending on the weather conditions, in the vicinity 2km north of Lochiel; Summerhills Rd Greigs Flat; Black Range Rd, Bega and Old Mill Lane, Wolumla.
