Sunday, May 11 is Mother’s Day and what better way to start the day than with a walk or run around Merimbula in aid of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a not for profit organisation that promotes and supports research into breast cancer prevention and treatment.

There will be music to warm up to by the Sapphire Coast Concert Band and a barbecue organised by the Rotary Club of Merimbula.
Organised by Gai Byrne from Merimbula Rotary Club with organiser of the first event, Bega nurse, Shannon Thomson, there’s a 5km walk/fun run and a 10km run for the serious runners.
Last year Shannon’s 88-year-old mum walked part of the way and is keen to do it again this year.
Many people chose to wear pink but it’s not compulsory and men, women and children are all welcome to take part.
Spend some quality time with mum as you take a walk, enjoy the music and let mum stretch out and sit back afterwards as you serve her something from the Rotary barbecue or take her out for lunch.
The run starts from Spencer Park, Main Street, Merimbula on Sunday, May 11. Registrations open at around 8am with the walk starting at 9am. Entry is $20 for adults and $10 for children under 16 years.
