In what is a new concept for Group 16, the Stallions had one win from three games in the Nines competition.
Despite two losses, the Stallions showed they will be a force this year with all the new players fitting in well.
The Stallions started the day with a convincing win over the hosts Bemboka 17-10.
With a short break, the Stallions then played Bega in their second match of the day.
The Cooma side started well but as the heat rose so did the mistakes. In the Nines a mistake at the wrong end can prove costly and unfortunately for the Stallions that was the case in this game. After leading for most of the game the Stallions let in a couple of late tries to give Bega victory.
After another short break, the Stallions took on Eden in a do-or-die game. Again, Cooma got off to a flying start and at half time were in front 8-nil. The heat and fatigue was starting to show and with a dropped ball next to the posts, Eden capitalised and crossed in the corner as the full time hooter sounded to give them victory. Eden went on to compete in the final from this win.
Player of the day for Cooma was young Zane Weston with his three try effort.
The Stallions travel to Tathra on Saturday to compete in the first round of the pre-season competition. This will include all four grades with the ladies kicking off at 2pm. All players will need to attend training to get a spot in the sides. The 18s will travel to Pambula to take on the Merimbula Pambula Bulldogs on the same day.
