Local fire fighters at the Merimbula Town Brigade received a special thank you from the Sapphire Coast Walkers when the group visited the station on Friday, February 28 whilst on their walk. The group held red balloons as part of the inaugural Australian National Red Balloon Day specifically to thank all local fire fighters for their hard and courageous work.

Organiser of the walkers group, Shirley Rixon said: “We are one of the many community organisations to support and recognise the bravery and continuing spirit of the fire fighters as they protect our communities in both the town and rural areas.”
The day raises money through the sale of red balloons and funds raised return to the state fire services where sales of the red balloons took place.
