The Angelina Jolie directed film, Unbroken, will have special resonance with Bermagui residents. Film shots of the historic Wallaga Lake Bridge, south of the town, will be taken as a 1940s truck and car pass over it. Unbroken is a film about World War 11.
The bridge dates back to 1894 and was built to give farmers access to the Bermagui wharf enabling them to ship their produce to Sydney.
Filming on the bridge is expected to take place on Tuesday, February 11 and it required the approval of the Bega Valley Shire Council.
The application, lodged by Universal Studios was treated as ‘urgent business’ at council’s January 22 meeting.
The filming process will cause some disruption to traffic,
Universal Studios has sought approval to film between 6am and 5pm. It expects that traffic will be stopped for about three to four minutes per take.
Councillors had no problem with the request and Cr Tony Allen said it was “a wonderful thing for the area".
