Narooma police know the dark blue Mitsubishi Lancer was stolen from Thomson Parade, Dalmeny, sometime between 8.30pm on Sunday, December 10 and 7.30am the following morning.
A walker noticed the car at 11am on Monday at the base of 6-metre cliff at Mummaga headland, just off McMillan Crescent.
Police say the car may have gone over some time overnight on Sunday, but neighbours in the area did not hear anything. Other walkers probably passed the car earlier on Monday morning but did not notice it at the base of the cliffs.
It is unclear if anyone was in the car when it hit bushes at the top of the cliff and spun around to slide backwards down the relatively steep cliff face.
There were no signs of blood or injury, although the car was being towed on Monday for forensic testing.
A crane was used to lift the car to the top of the cliff under the watchful eye of the Dalmeny RFS brigade, who were on scene to contain any fluid spills.
Anyone with information about the theft of the vehicle should call Narooma police on 4476 2044 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
