Legatee Pat de Gelder who accompanied the ladies on their travels, but not to the morning tea, said they caught the bus to Canberra the day before and stayed in hotel.
“The next day they were taken to Government House by limousine and spent the morning with other war widows from Canberra and surrounding areas and were thrilled to meet the Governor-General,” Ms de Gelder said.
“Sir Peter spent time with them at their table and the ladies enjoyed a beautiful morning tea spread,” she added.
