In NSW, 4.1 million people voted, with a Yes vote majority of 57.8 per cent while the electorate of Eden-Monaro topped both those percentages with a clear statement to the federal government that 64.9 per cent approve of same-sex marriage.
The news has been welcomed by Jonathan Vincent and John Holmes, of Merimbula who called it a great outcome.
“We would like to say thank you to Australia for believing in equality and love and also to the residents of Eden-Monaro who voted Yes,” John said.
“We are both happy at the outcome, but are still waiting for government to get it done. How Parliament handles this now is the main concern. We don’t want one law of discrimination removed only to be replaced with another that discriminates in a different way,” John said.
ABS stats show 88,398 residents of Eden-Monaro voted in the survey – an 80% return rate.
