INCUBATOR is a brand new music scholarship for young musicians on the South Coast.

Young musicians on the South Coast are set to receive a boost thanks to a new scholarship run by South East Arts.

The scholarship (INCUBATOR) is designed to enable promising young musicians between the ages of 12 and 18 to hone their craft, and take their skills to the next level.

The scholarship provides $1000 towards the cost of music lessons for one year, paid directly to the student’s nominated teacher/tutor.

Nominations for this new annual initiative can be made by school-based or private music teachers, drawing on their knowledge of students’ talents and abilities, or students can also apply directly.

INCUBATOR applicants will need to submit a video of themselves performing a piece as part of the application. Students can apply themselves but with support from their teacher.

The winner of the scholarship will be chosen by an assessment panel of music representatives from the region. Applicants will be assessed on their musical talent, skills development potential, learning outcomes and case for financial support.

General Manager of South East Arts, Andrew Gray says "INCUBATOR is a great opportunity for a young musician”.

“It will relieve some of the financial pressure that sometime comes with pursuing your passion,” he said.

Applications for the scholarship close on Friday, December 1, with the successful applicant notified by December 16.

All musical styles and instruments (including voice) will be considered. Applicants need to live in the southeast region (Bega Valley, Eurobodalla and Snowy Monaro Regional Councils) and be between the ages of 12 to 18 years in 2018 to qualify. A short video or sound recording must be attached or linked to the application.
