“This one is really for anyone who wants to give powerlifting a go,” event director Dan Dakis said.
“We’re hosting this event as an introduction to the sport and an awesome opportunity to test yourself against the iron.”
Entries are open to anyone and Dakis said there are already a good number of local first time competitors.
Spectators and cheer squads are more than welcome and entry is free on the day.
Food and drinks will also be available.
Powerlifting is targeted at three core disciplines, including a squat, bench press and deadlift.
The competition is catered to each individual competitor, you won’t have to lift a set amount during any event, but rather each entrant will be able to nominate their lift.
The gym will have professional judges on hand to set the lifts for each event as well as ensuring correct technique during the competition.
Dakis said joining competitions is a quick way to measure your ability and make some quick gains in both technical form, but also strength.
Entry is $50 and you can register or find more info by contacting Dan Dakis on 0428 753 024, at the website www.theironstronghold.com.au or the Iron Stronghold Facebook page.
Competition starts at 11am on Saturday and the gym can be found at 4B Sir William McKell Drive, Pambula in the industrial estate.
The gym is fully wheelchair accessible.
