Karters were met by idyllic conditions on the racetrack with the fields contesting practice rounds on Saturday ahead of two race heats and finals on Sunday morning. 

Ben Aylen said entries were slightly down on the previous year, but it was exciting to see the growth in the junior ranks. 

“This is one of the biggest entries of the Cadet 9 class we’ve seen, it’s great to see that growth in the juniors,” Mr Aylen said.

The club’s new promotion officer hails from the capital in the ACT and said Sapphire was one of the strongest junior representations in the region.  

“You get more young racers at this club then you see in Canberra,” he said. 

The club hosted 13 divisions overall across the weekend, with almost half the entries coming out of the junior ranks. 

Each class was able to get plenty of time on course with seven 10-lap heats per grade over both Saturday and Sunday.

However, it was only the finals that counted for the leaderboard and they were contested over 14 laps on Sunday. 

Kaleb Belak and Zach Munckton had a great rivalry, trading results in the cadet 9s. 

Kaleb won the day, while Lana Aylen finished a close second in the race that counted ahead of Zach in third. 

Adam Martin was the TAG 125 light restricted winner after a strong weekend. 

The club is now eager to host come and try days.
