A handful of Sapphire Coast locals have been named among the carriers of the Queen’s Baton for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The tricky part will be to make sure Dane Waites doesn’t run the entire relay distance himself!
Mr Waites and Lynne Koerbin from Merimbula will be joined by Eden’s Helen Hillier and Kate Butterfield of Bermagui in carrying the baton for a leg of the relay leading up to the Gold Coast Games.
The Queen’s Baton will arrive in Australia on December 24, and will travel through every state and territory over 100 days, covering 40,000km.
On average, each baton bearer will carry it for approximately 200 metres – which will make a considerable change for Mr Waites who just three weeks ago celebrated arriving home after running solo from Perth to Pambula, a distance of around 4000km.
The Queen’s Baton will arrive on the Gold Coast for the 2018 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony on April 4.
