“The weather forecast is looking amazing for Sunday and it should be perfect conditions for a run,” event organiser Debbie McGufficke said.
She said that excitement about the community event was building and entries were in line with last year, but officials were expecting a flurry of last minute entries after double-checking the weather on the day.
Following on from the highly successful Merimbula Fun Run, the Bega edition will also include three major events on Sunday morning.
The headline 10km event will launch at 8am, while the 5km and 2.5km kid’s dash events go ahead later at 9am and 9.45am respectively.
“Entries are looking positive and this really is a great event for the town,” McGufficke said.
“It’s all about fun and getting the whole family involved - we have discounts for family entries.
“And we’re not fussed if you don’t want to run, walkers and casual entries are more than welcome in the 5km event.
“We would love to see everyone there, just come along and be part of it.”
Officials are also looking to give back to local school students who sign up as teams to represent their schools.
“If a school enters more than four kids in a team then they go into the draw to win $100 worth of vouchers for books or other great prizes like sports equipment,” she said.
Prizes for school entries will be drawn at random – not based on event times.
McGufficke said if there was anyone who didn’t want to take the course at all, but still wanted to help out, there were open volunteer spots to lend a hand on the day.
Organisers said a lot of the competitive runners would look to knock over the 10km event, while the most eager would then back up for the 5km as well.
However, joggers and even people enjoying a Sunday morning stroll are invited to take part in the 5km event from 8.45.
And for anyone who took part last year, it will be a familiar circuit with not too many changes from last year’s course.
“There has only been a couple of minor changes, where we’ve shifted the turnaround slightly and the starting line is much closer to the Bega Rec Ground.” McGufficke said.
McGufficke said organisers were extremely grateful to their sponsors for making the event possible.
Early bird discounts are available for online entries up until midnight on Saturday, but if you miss out you can register at the Bega Recreation Ground from 6.30am on Sunday.
