The Club Sapphire auditorium was packed for Saturday night's Bega Valley Stars Dance for Cancer gala event.

Eight “stars” from across the shire grooved and twirled across the dance floor with their professional partners to complete several months of fundraising efforts for the Cancer Council NSW.

Even before ticket sales and donations and raffles on the night were factored in, around $20,000 had been raised by the eight locals in a deservedly applauded effort.

Judges on the night were last year's winning star Jacqui Smith, Bega MP Andrew Constance, Greg Whitby and Geoff Willis.

Tennis coach James Poso was a big hit to get the dance performances started, switching from his tennis gear into Saturday Night Fever mode with his dance partner Amber Little.

Up next was Taylor McNeil knocking out some rock'n'roll twirls with Kelly Lewis.

Bringing some real class to the night was Debbie Gardiner and AFL umpire-cum-dance teacher Dave Boulton dancing a ballroom waltz to Bobby Darin A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square.

To bring the first session to a funky close, popular pastor Jeremy Fernando and his dance teacher (and daughter) Chloe Jackson channelled Michael Jackson in a medley of his greatest hits – and greatest dance moves.

Just before the intermission, 14-year-old Irish dancer Lillian McVeity got a standing ovation from some for her incredible Riverdance footwork.

After the break, when everyone was invited to enjoy the dance floor for themselves, were Annette Haigh and dance partner Rachel Murphy, Janine Ballard and Ray McGovern, Bek Norman and Alli Jury and Don Hassan and Sam McGovern.

Photos and videos of these four – plus winners of the night – to come.
