Brown boys dominate Tura monthly medal

Tura Beach held the October Monthly Medal sponsored by Sapphire Coast Golf School on Saturday.

A good field of well over 100 golfers enjoyed a great day.

The Brown Clan excelled in Saturday’s stroke round for the Sapphire Coast Golf School’s Monthly Medal off the blue tees, coming in well clear of the field. 

Ex Bega High Headmaster Alan Brown provided a lesson in golf stroke play, taking out the overall honours as well as B Grade with an amazing net 66, closely followed by distant kinsman Gavin Brown who took out the C Grade medal with a stellar net 67. 

Brian Lowder took out the A Grade medal with a net 70 from Richard Firth, a visitor from Forster, and Mick McCarron with 72.

Runner-up in B Grade was Lyle Barker with a net 71 from Steve Butterworth with 72.

C Grade runner-up was Laurie Quigley with a net 73, having his first game back after working in the USA for a few months.  Third was Norm Hamilton on 74.

Lowest round of the day went to Gary Cook with 73 off the stick.

Brian & Gavin received their medals, Alan received the sponsors shirt for the best score of the day a Nett 66.

Nearest the Pins went to A Brown on the 3rd, J Fitzpatrick on 5 and 9 topping off a good day by taking out the Golden Shot as well, D Hall on 13 and R Firth on 17.

The ball competition went down to net 76.

Tuesdays event was a Stableford game played off the white tees.

High scores were turned in for all grades.

Leonard Salt in C Grade had the best round of them with 43 stableford points.

A Grade was taken out by Darren Hampton with 41 points from Rob Staite and Mark Jorgensen both with 40 points.

B Grade was won by Bob Eley with 41 points on countback from Tony Fullerton, third was Ken Coates with 39 points.

C Grade runner-up with 42 points was Ken Crabtree from Bruce Peel with 41. 

Nearest the Pins went to J Fitzpatrick on the 3rd, B Russell on 5, P McInnes on 9, M Jorgensen on 13 also taking out the Golden Shot and S Stewart on 17.

The monthly Elders $5000 Shootout is coming up on Friday, November 3.

The novelty event is held on the first Friday of the month between October and March, 4-6.30pm.

A $5 entry fee entitles participants to three attempts at the 9th green and a drink voucher.

The first attempt by any participant from the main competition tee is eligible for the major hole in one prize of $5000. 

Additional nearest to the pin prizes of $100 in club vouchers are also available.
