This will be the first time the group has appeared in this area and promises to be a very special concert as all four musicians are well known in their own right.
The group holds the position of ‘quartet in residence’ at the Melbourne Conservatorium, and is made up of internationally acclaimed artists who bring performing experience from all over the world, including the greatest halls of Europe, Asia, America and Australia.
In addition to concert engagements, the artists serve as teaching members at the Conservatorium. They deliver a passionate vision for the highest development of string playing in Australia.
The quartet is composed of Curt Thompson (violin), Markiyan Melnychenko (violin), Simon Oswell (viola) and Alvin Wong (cello).
All are outstanding artists who have achieved recognition individually. For example, violist Simon Oswell lived in the US for over 20 years, and was actively involved in the Hollywood recording scene, recording sound tracks to over 800 films, including Titanic, Schindler’s List and the Lion King, as well as working with Barbara Streisand, Elton John, Rod Stewart and Alicia Keys.
Cellist Alvin Wong has been praised by the press for his ‘warm hall-filling’ tone and ‘moments of magic’ in his playing.
The group will be providing a wonderful afternoon’s entertainment by playing Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 18, No.3, Joaquin Turina’s La Oración del Torero, Op. 34 and Ravel’s String Quartet in F Major.
This concert promises to be one of the highlights of the year – one not to be missed.
