The aim of the evening was to introduce more people to the sound of brass bands and to encourage any players, past, present or aspiring, to be part of the Bega District Band which has been in existence since 1899.
Canberra Brass played a set which included a cornet solo by Mike Purcel of the technically difficult Carnival of Venice. The set also included David Bowie’s Life on Mars and Freddie Mercury’s Bohemian Rhapsody.
Bega District Band made an interesting entrance for the second half as the players sung to The Cossack Patrol as they took up their seats being playing.
The evening finished with a combined bands item, Conquest of Paradise which was the theme from the film of the same name.
Music director of the band Bruce Munchenberg said he was very pleased with the turnout and warm response that both bands received.
