The grant of $1320 plus an additional $200 from the Wolumla RFS allowed the service to buy three new VHF radios which offer a vital communications channel at a fire ground.
Wolumla RFS captain John Wilson said crew leaders were being given the new VHF radios which would provide a separate channel for resourcing requests and key instructions at fire grounds. Crew members use UHF radios which can become quite busy during a fire.
“These will improve safety and are being introduced throughout the Bega Valley,” Mr Wilson said.
The Wolumla RFS applied for a grant from the IMB Bank Community Foundation to purchase three VHF radios to provide a more secure, reliable form of communication and make fire fighting more effective.
Mr Wilson thanked the IMB Bank and said it was gratifying to see local businesses supporting vital community organisations.
Any organisation looking for financial assistance from the community grant scheme should contact IMB Bank Merimbula in February 2018 for more information.
