Pambula Preschool has recently connected with the WeCare Foundation that supports women and children at risk in Papua New Guinea.

Families and children at Pambula preschool have generously donated much needed resources, and the preschool is now aiming to collect 1000 children’s books (alphabet, counting/numbers, colours, basic words and simple first-reader style books) to be given to the children and their families at two Port Moresby preschools. 

Pambula Preschool director Pam McCambridge said the centre was working with well known local Mick Brosnan who informed them that for some families in Papua New Guinea these books with be the first they ever own.

The children have also been cooking every day this week and selling their delicious treats to help raise money for the WeCare Foundation. 

“Each child has learnt all about Papua New Guinea and why we are doing this and by cooking together they can feel like they are also helping in some way,” Ms McCambridge said. 

“We just thought it would be a good thing to get the kids involved, it’s never too early to instill a spirit of giving in our children.”

The preschool has created a chart a placed it at the front of the centre to keep track of how many books have been collected, which on Monday totalled more than 400 – halfway towards their target.  

The local community is also encouraged to help and may drop off good quality children’s books at the preschool.
