But space can get a little short when you try to pack that whole band, and their equipment, into a convoy of cars to drive from Melbourne to Bega. 

The Northern Folk have done just that, bringing their eclectic sounds and styles to town for a mid-week performance at the Funhouse Studio. 

They have also made it their aim to stop in at local schools to show the students what they could do in the future.

The band impressed a large crowd of students at Eden Marine High School on Wednesday morning, August 30, before stopping at Lumen Christi Catholic College in the afternoon.

They will travel to Bega High School on Thursday and then finish their tour of the Far South Coast with a visit to Narooma High School on Friday. 

The band said it was the first time the band had played at a school. They’re were not sure what to expect when performing for the students but said Northern Folk are always up for the excitement of something new.

When they finished performing at Eden there was a huge round of applause as they showed their appreciation to the band for brightening up the school day. 

The band also took the time to talk to students about their music and run workshops to discuss show business with up and coming performers in the region. 

The group is returning to the region after playing at a number of events in the area earlier this year, such as the Candelo, Cobargo and Illawarra folk festivals. 

This time around, they’re bringing some new sounds with them, including a soon to be released single. 

The band formed in Albury, releasing their first EP in 2015. Since then they have set about making a name for themselves by playing at festivals, pubs and snowfields around North East Victoria, Melbourne and Canberra.

A majority of the Northern Folk band members moved to Melbourne to soak up the arts and music scene of Australia’s culture capital.
