In the years from 1953 to 1962, a team of bird callers from bush schools on the Sapphire Coast won the State Birdcall Championships six times. A grant from IMB Bank Community Foundation will allow the Merimbula-Imlay Historical Society to recreate some of the magic of those extraordinary results with a DVD showcasing newsreel footage from the original competitions.
In June, the IMB Bank Community Foundation pledged another $500,000 to 50 projects across the areas in which it operates, including a grant to the Wolumla Rural Fire Brigade for fire ground radios to improve communications for the firefighters and Bega Valley Meals on Wheels received some funding for new freezers.
IMB Bank Community Foundation announced it would support 10 projects on the Far South Coast in 2017, bringing the total funding to $953,223 of 87 projects in the past 18 years.
Merimbula has received $10,554 of funding in that time.
In the 18 years since the IMB Bank Community Foundation was established, thousands of people who live and work in the communities IMB Bank serves have benefited from $8.6m in funding to 600 local projects.
