Event executive from Parkinson’s NSW, Christine McGee is encouraging everyone with an interest in the disease, from those with Parkinson’s to carers, health professionals and nursing home staff to attend.
“We need to let people know what is available to them and that’s something that even GPs may not be fully aware of,” Ms McGee said.
She was particularly keen to see nursing home staff attend because of the importance of keeping up medication and its timely use in treating Parkinson’s.
The seminar is all about well being for those with the disease and carers. Topics include, treatment update, coping with carer stress, exercise physiologist diagnosis to beyond, occupational therapist - the home, speech pathologist - prevention rather than cure.
The neurologist taking part in presentations, Paul Couston, also has Parkinson’s disease.
Bob McDonald, president of the Bega Valley Parkinson Group said the seminar was very important for Bega.
“It’s very good that they are talking about carers too, they get forgotten and they are so important,” Mr McDonald said.
The seminar takes place in the Bega Biamanga Room, Level 1 Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre, Zingel Place, Bega, Monday, August 7, 9.30am for a 10am start. It is free for Parkinson’s NSW members and it is possible to become a member by calling the InfoLine on 1800 644 189 or signing up on the day.
Non members are asked to make a donation of $10 towards the cost of the seminar. Please RSVP to the InfoLine 1800 644 189.
