A 50-year-old Tuross Head man has been taken to the South East Regional Hospital mental health unit after he was arrested on Monday morning allegedly wielding an axe during a confrontation with police.

The man was due to face Bega Local Court on Tuesday, July 17, where Magistrate Doug Dick adjourned an AVO matter to Moruya Local Court on August 11.
On Monday morning, police responded to a domestic related incident at a Tuross Heads residential property.
Police allege the man was at the front of the property in an agitated state holding an axe when they arrived at 6.40am.
Police attempted to negotiate with the man for a period of time. He was eventually arrested after being subdued with capsicum spray.
He was treated by ambulance at the scene and taken to Batemans Bay Police Station.
The man has been charged with Malicious damage, Aggravated break and enter with intent, Armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, Use an offensive weapon to prevent apprehension, Resist arrest and Assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
