Outgoing president Lily Warby reflected of the past year’s successes including the boat cruise, Christmas party and trivia night. She also mentioned the two large donations made to the Sapphire Coast Arts and Sports Youth Development Fund and Funhouse in Bega.
Incoming president Sarah Lam then spoke about the future of the club and its renewed focus on events for local young adults and aims to support organisations that are aimed at helping young people. Sarah spoke about plans to once again host a trivia night and for the club to host its first ever Oktoberfest event later in the year.
Sapphire Coast Rotaract comprises of a group of local 18-30 year olds who organise events and activities for like-minded people to raise money for various community groups. To get involved with Sapphire Coast Rotaract find the group on Facebook
Merimbula Rotary
The Rotary Club of Merimbula held it’s annual changeover dinner on Wednesday 28 June at The Wharf restaurant. It was a wonderful night shared with good company and good food.
Fifty people attended including members and their partners, visiting members from the Rotary Club of Pambula, The Rotary Club of Bega, Sapphire Rotaract, as well as friends from the Pambula Merimbula Lions making up the numbers.
The evening acknowledged this year’s Club highlights, and celebrated the handing over of the Presidency from Past President Gai Byrne to in coming President Brad Barker.
Past President Gai Byrne spoke of our Club’s involvement with various local community projects such as International Womens Day Luncheon, the Australia Day celebrations and the Mother’s Day Classic Fun Run.
Brad Barker was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow Award for outstanding Rotary Service, Cam Edgerton received a certificate for his Outstanding Service in Volunteering and Eve O’Brien was commended for her outstanding contributions toward the Club’s Membership.
On the international level, Gai spoke of our Club’s involvement with End Polio Now, Australian Rotary Health and a donation to Haiti Cyclone relief.
The new Board of Directors was also announced.
Pambula Rotary
Rotary Club of Pambula new board members are up for the challenge after successful past year that resulted in Pambula Rotary Club distributing $80,000
The new board are Steve Goodchild (vice-president), Daryl Dobson (past president), Colin Dunn (president), Victor Rothwell (international service), David Wriedt (youth service), Jill Goodchild (club service), Lou Roper (treasurer), Jill Hampshire (secretary), Lynne Koerbin (president-elect), Graham Brown (vocational service), and Peter Moore (community service).
At the recent final dinner meeting for 2016-17 the Pambula Rotary Club treasurer, Lou Roper, announced that over the past year, the club had distributed over $80,000 - 70% of funds directed to local programmes and projects, and 30% to international organisations.
Local beneficiaries included: the Community Carers Accommodation Project at the new hospital, Pambula Public School, Pambula Hospital, Pambula Rural Fire Brigade, Suicide Prevention Action Network (SPAN), PCYC, Pambula Mens Shed, Perth2Pambula (Dane Waites), Bega Women’s Refuge.
Funds are raised through a variety of ways including the monthly markets, raffles at the Lakeview Hotel, the annual golf weekend and catering.
The new board and members are committed to bettering this amount to ensure they can maintain the assistance and support for our community, and the underprivileged.
