On Thursday kerb and guttering work starts which will outline the new road. While much of this work will be done by machine, areas where there will be a pedestrian crossing will be finished by hand. This will mean that the pathway at the corner of Monaro and Market Streets will have to close during Thursday and the public will be asked to use pavements on the opposite side of the road.
Project engineer David Buckley explained that while service trenches are open extra conduits are being laid to enable NBN cables to be installed at a later date.
Provision is being made for low voltage overhead cables at the new intersection to go underground although three high voltage lines will have to remain due to technical difficulties at this stage, Mr Buckley said.
Pleased with progress so far he added that local contractor Michelin had “hit the ground running”.
