More than 250 golfers representing 64 separate clubs from NSW, ACT, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia and King Island played in Ace of Clubs tournament recently.

Officials said the solid number of entrants were met with idyllic winter conditions for the tournament’s 21st birthday edition across four Far South Coast clubs – Bega, Eden, Pambula-Merimbula and Tura beach.
More than 1000 rounds of golf were played across the 72-hole competition, which featured daily individual stableford events at each of the four courses.
Scores from the daily events tallied up to finalise the overall total points for the 72 holes. The players with the highest points being declared the King and Queen of Clubs.
Winning the king’s crown was Rick Horwood from Medway in Victoria, while Pambula-Merimbula local Carlene Ramsay was declared queen with the top score.
The crowning ceremony was carried out at a presentation dinner at the Pambula Merimbula Golf Club following the final day’s play on the Thursday.
Club captain Ian Franks declared the winners with vice-president Tony Freeman and ladies vice-captain Lynda Jolly presenting the crowns and trophies to the winners.
Horwood played off a Golf Australia handicap of 12 and won the tournament with an overall tally of 143 points including wins at Eden and Tura.
Runner-up was Chris Biffin – also from Medway – with 140 points on a count-back from Brad Tepper.
Ramsay has a handicap of 10 and produced 124 points including a Tura round win to claim the ladies title just one point ahead of runner-up Robyn Whitehead from Beverley Park with 123 points.
A feature of this year’s tournament was the introduction of a teams event, which was won by the Yowani Golf Club team of Brad Tepper, Ken Norris, Geoff Strang and David Harris with a combined total of 508 points on a count-back from the Medway team of Rick Horwood, Chris Biffin, Stephen Buckley and Chris Jamieson.
The traditional two-person ambrose wrapped up proceedings on Friday including Robert Irvine and Judith Braden both hitting holes-in-one.
Officials said it was a fantastic event with some clubs sending large teams of entrants, with the best response from Medway, who had 40 golfers entered.
Other large representations included 22 golfers from Murrumbidgee, 18 from Queanbeyan and 12 from Yowani. Once again King Island provided a team of 7 players.
Organisers said the Ace of Clubs will return next year on June 17-22.
