The pathway has been on the cards for a number of years with local Rotary clubs working alongside Bega Valley Shire Council in the push to make the dream a reality. 

Upon hearing the announcement Pambula Rotary president Daryl Dobson let out a huge cheer. 

“At the moment my head is still buzzing, this is so exciting for the town,” Mr Dobson said. 

“We have secured money to design and build a shared path for cyclists and pedestrians that will connect Rotary Park in Merimbula to the wharf which is fantastic news for the local community,” Mr Constance said.

“This will not only better connect two key destinations in Merimbula, it will also provide another fantastic tourism driver and give the region a further economic boost.”

The $2 million will be provided to Bega Shire Council who will start planning and construction as soon as possible.

“By targeting investment into improved cycling and walking facilities, the NSW Government is supporting more liveable and accessible communities.

“Importantly, the NSW Government is listening to key groups in the community like Bureau of Accessible Tourism (BOAT) and Bicycle NSW to prioritise, plan and extend paths across our communities.

“The 2017/18 Budget will see an unprecedented amount invested into active transport infrastructure across the state, making it easier for people who walk or ride to work to do so more safely,” Mr Constance said.

“We are listening to key groups in the community, like Bicycle NSW and Bicycle Networks to prioritise, plan and extend paths all over New South Wales.”
