The latest was $1300 from Bega Rotary, the proceeds from its recent Showcase of Talent concert. This is in addition to a previous donation of $4000 from the Rotary Club’s summer book fair.
Bega Rotary’s Charlie Blomfield was on hand at the construction site this week to hand over the money to Community Carers Accommodation South East president Lynne Koerbin.
“The groundswell of support in the community is amazing,” Ms Koerbin said.
Stage one of the project is well underway with construction scheduled for completion around September and the six furnished apartments available by October if all goes to plan.
Ms Koerbin said they were hoping to hear advice on an application for government funding for stage two later this month. She said the second stage was estimated to cost $920,000 with CCASE contributing 60 per cent.
With the $450,000 for stage one – which was matched by the state government – Mr Blomfield said more than $1million had been raised by the local community.
