Mrs Symes was fully aware of our terms and conditions when making a booking and she was given every opportunity to purchase Travel Insurance for $9. She elected not to purchase insurance and was unable to travel, giving notice only hours before departure. Accordingly, her fare was forfeited. This is the case where less than 7 days notice is given. These are standard conditions with majority of airlines.
Mrs Symes makes a further claim in her letter that: Three medical professionals had issued letters which stipulated that her flight time should be changed or she should be given a refund. I have real difficulty in believing such a claim. I likewise refute her claim that our booking manager acted inappropriately.
We welcome Mrs Symes and her family to travel with Free Spirit Airlines at any time and we can assure that she and her family will be treated with courtesy and respect and the service provided to them will be fully in accordance with our terms and conditions, as is the case for all passengers.

Amazing community
I suffered a stroke mid April. Since that time the care and support I have received from so many in this wonderful community has being overwhelming. I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you. You have made a difficult time a little easier.

Short Point sculpture
Council’s planning department has recently received community and councillors’ criticism for altering planning decisions without the latter’s knowledge or approval. The proposed staff addition of a roof for the viewing platform at Short Point is a poignant example.
However, the community is still enduring another council-imposed physical assault on the otherwise aesthetic appeal of this location - the blight of The Giant Poop sculpture.
What an embarrassment for the community that the area is being ridiculed by visitors who can only wonder, “What is that?”
The local community is astonished how our council could approve such a totally out of character structure for Short Point, let alone have it erected through ratepayers’ contributions! Were residents consulted? Not likely!
I know Coffs Harbour has The Big Banana, Nambour The Big Pineapple and Ballina The Big Prawn, but The Giant Poop for Merimbula?
If council is so enamoured with our big brown blob, it should relieve the community of its structural misfit and re-erect it in front of the Bega Civic Centre or at the entrance to the Bega Sewage Works.

Women’s gathering
Thank you to the women of Merimbula for submitting an application to host the RWN Women’s Gathering for 2018.
The Women’s Gathering is a fantastic event for local women and their communities. It brings women from across the state ‘Gathering Junkies’ to your town. Congratulations for having ago.
The Gathering for 2017 will be held at Narrandera 27-29 October. Merimbula committee will be there to promote Merimbula and their gathering, they would be so thrilled if women from the Far South Coast turned up to cheer them on. Well done ladies.

Cattle Bay Marina
The claim by Denise Dion in the article about councillor conduct (MNW, 31/5) that POEM made a submission against the Cattle Bay Marina DA is not correct.
POEM has never objected to the Cattle Bay marina. We did object to a statement in the Cattle Bay DA that the Snug Cove marina project should be ranked second after the Cattle Bay marina as we considered that neither project should have preference over the other.
To support our argument against being ranked second we pointed out that the Snug Cove safe harbour/marina project has Government funding for its attenuator.
We are, of course, aware that there is a range of views in the community about the merits and prospects of the Cattle Bay development but POEM has never had or expressed a policy of opposing the Cattle Bay Marina.
