In C grade play, Candelo downed Tathra 3-1 after a great game, while Elders had a narrow one-goal win over the Grand Stars.
In B grade, Elders brought their a game to secure a 5-1 victory over Candelo and Tathra edged the Grand Hotel in a tough 1-0 result.
The Men's A grade saw Pambula beating Grand Hotel 4-1,and the Magpie's had a fast- paced game against Candelo resulting in a 2-1 score.
“Both teams put on an excellent display of skill, playing hard and fast and keeping a high intensity game very entertaining for all,” a spokeswoman said.
In women’s play, United lined up against Candelo in a good match of skill, but United fought hard to secure a 4-1 result.
Many players then stayed on for an extra game with Candelo reserves forced to forfeit to Elders – but the clubs pulled together the numbers for a scratch match with some borrowed team mates from earlier games.
“In an excellent show of sportsmanship and fun, players from four different teams joined up with Candelo to give the ladder leaders' Elders a tough game,” the spokeswoman said.
She said it also allowed players to try out different positions than normal with striker Kath Sirl showing off her versatility by playing fullback with the Candelo team, while Sharyn Heffernan moved up from fullback to striker and very nearly popped one past the Elders goalie.
Organisers are now looking forward to Saturday’s round where more close matches are expected.
