The Bulldogs succumbed to a second-half fight back by the Roosters to go down in Sunday’s headline fixture 40-32.
The hosts were also upstaged in the women’s league-tag match up 30-12, while the reserve grade game ran even early before Bega took control to claim a big 46-16 win.
However, the Bulldogs proved too strong in the under 18s match up, outclassing Bega with a dominant 52-10 result.
In the first-grade contest the Roosters and Bulldogs were battling for metres through the ruck as both teams made some excellent runs up the middle.
However, the Bulldogs coughed up a few handling errors to give Bega good field position early and Ryan Apps set the Roosters up an early lead on a trademark burst to crash over under the posts.
There was also an on-field incident that saw the Bulldogs a man down with Corey Schafer binned for 10 minutes and the Roosters began pressing the assault.
A follow-up run down the right edge by Declan Bower-Scott put the Roosters ahead 12-0 with two accurate kicks from Todd Ingram adding the extras.
However, a fantastic line break to the Bulldogs saw Dylan Fletcher providing inside support to get the ball and run in a try under the posts and add his own two pointer.
The Roosters extended to 16-6 after a left edge break to Joel Tamatea, but again the Bulldogs fired back through Matthew Moon, then Jake Mikula to clinch a two-point lead.
Fletcher again broke through to score moments before the siren and the Bulldogs led 22-16 at the break.
However, with a left-edge attack putting together some great runs, the Roosters took charge in the second half and began piling on tries.
Scott Fuller broke through three minutes into the second period, then 10 minutes later Tamatea found the line again.
Ingram then posted his own try and put two pointers over the posts on six of seven attempts in a great display with the boot.
Corey Schafer converted his own try to close the gap to two points, but Tamatea sealed his third try with four minutes on the clock to secure the win for Bega.
With a few key outs in the reserves, the Bull Ants found themselves under attack on their normal strong point – the right hand edge.
The Roosters peppered kicks and runs to their left flank and overwhelming the Bull Ants with numbers down the edge.
Tries to Jake Overend and Ryan Casey kept the Bull Ants in the hunt during a high-scoring first half, but the Roosters overran the defence in the second stanza to claim a big win.
