A large crowd of family, friends and community supporters gathered at Wheeler’s Seafood Restaurant, Pambula for a high tea and final fundraiser farewell before Dane’s historic journey.
Benevolent Society director of community and business development, Paul Harkin, flew down for the event from Sydney.
As a key supporter, Mr Harkin said it was an “amazing feat” that stands out among other events.
“It’s a very big initiative and one their team has single-handedly made happen,” he said.
“Dane is just so driven, as is his mum.”
Wheeler’s Seafood Restaurant owner Jacqui Smith expressed her admiration of Dane’s dream during a speech.
“Dane you’re incredible, you really are,” she said.
Dane thanked his sponsors and friends before the afternoon tea rolled on.
Dane will be running 4000km to raise money for autism research and support, as well as money for beyondblue.
