About 450 runners competed in both the 10km and 5km events, with 130 competitors opting for the longer distance.
The event was originally organised by the Merimbula Chamber of Commerce, but since then it has been handed over to the Sapphire Coast Runners.
The inaugural event proved an outstanding success.
“The success of the 2013 Merimbula Fun Run far exceeded our expectations for this inaugural event. The enthusiasm and camaraderie of volunteers, the community, runners and walkers made for a superb event which I was very proud to be a part of. Bring on 2014,” chief organiser Donella Roberts said at the time.
The event was organised to celebrate Merimbula’s natural beauty and bring visitors to the town during a traditionally quiet period.
While the fun run attracts many seasoned runners due to the course being officially measured and very scenic and therefore enjoyable to run, it also had a very strong family focus particularly in the 5km event.
This year’s Fun Run includes a 10km Open event that launches from Merimbula’s Ford Park and will loop right out to the Merimbula Wharf and back again.
The five-kilometre event will follow the same path, but has a return point along beach street, while for the first time ever there will also be a shorter kids event which will loop Fishpen before returning to Ford Park.
The 10km event will head off at 8am, before the 5km event at 9am and the kids’ dash at 9.45am.
