The Sapphire Coast Concert Band and Big Band presented their annual concert at Club Sapphire, Merimbula on Friday evening to an appreciative audience.

The Big Band, under the musical direction of Paul Dion showcased the talents of all members with solos from flutist Ingrid Owens, pianist Hunter Watts, saxophonists Emma Piccione and Oscar Gill and guitarist Rob Smallwood.
The Big Band was joined by Michael ‘Banjo’ Young for a couple of numbers with Banjo also doubling as compere for the evening.
Mr Dion showed the different sides to the band with big band arrangements, modern and traditional jazz performances. It was also a chance for the band to back vocalist Hayley Fragnito singing Route 66.
The Sapphire Coast Concert Band under the baton of Sandy Glass highlighted band members skills as they moved from folk music to funk.
Musicians took listeners on a journey from the well known Johann Strauss’ Radetsky March to a Fanfare Prelude on Finlandia by Jean Sibelius and then onto special arrangements of music by Prince and Stevie Wonder.
Patron Joyce McGill thanked the conductors for their continuing enthusiasm for the band which had been an important part of her late husband’s life.
The bands incorporate musicians from a wide age group and welcome new members interested in developing their musical skills.
