The request for a six month extension to Romfam Investments’ Due Diligence Deed was moved into closed session after councillors voted unanimously to consider the topic out of the public eye.
The deed refers to a 12 month exclusive dealing period given to Romfam Investments, allowing the company to carry out due diligence around the acquisition of the council owned former library site on Main St, before proceeding with a $1.3million purchase. This period expires on June 15, 2017.
Councillor Russell Fitzpatrick asked if the matter could be discussed confidentially saying “I think we need to have a look at the Merimbula parking if it [the due diligence deed] is extended six months”.
Cr Fitzpatrick said in order to fully consider the matter in regards to the ongoing parking issues in the Merimbula CBD they would also need to discuss confidential information relating to other developments.
Following the meeting, on Thursday, May 18, Mayor Kristy McBain said it was decided during the closed session that the general manager would go back and speak to Romfam.
“Councillors took that into closed session so we could have a general discussion about the site and about Merimbula as a whole,” Cr McBain said.
When asked for more information Cr McBain said “that’s about all the detail I can give at this stage”.
