Sometimes it takes a death to bring a family together, even one as dysfunctional as the small-town Texas family in Del Shores’ riotous dark comedy, Sordid Lives, the next production by Spectrum Theatre Group.
In this cult classic, directed by Amber Little, things quickly start to unravel after Peggy Ingram, the matriarch of this family, accidentally dies whilst engaging in an affair with her younger married neighbour.
Watch as the family and friends quarrel, quibble, and try to come to terms with Peggy’s death and the circumstances surrounding it.
A hilarious show filled with big hair, even bigger laughs, and a collection of outrageous personalities wilder than an acre of snakes, Sordid Lives will take you on a journey full of laughter, grief, tolerance and unconditional love, as the family’s secrets come flying out of the closet in more ways than one.
This award-winning play turned out to be so successful it was eventually made into a movie and TV series that featured our very own Olivia Newton-John playing the character of Bitsy Mae Harling, a guitar playing ex con.
So, put on your sitting britches and join us at Twyford Hall in Merimbula.
All shows, except one Sunday matinee show, are cabaret seating offering the opportunity to BYO drinks and snacks, sit back and enjoy the show as this hilarious story unfolds and the non-politically correct characters struggle with their problems.
Sordid Lives opens Saturday, May 20 at 7.30pm (cabaret seating), and continues Sunday, May 21 at 2pm (matinee seating), and then at 7.30pm with cabaret seating on Friday and Saturday, May 26, 27; Wednesday, May 31; Friday and Saturday, June 2,3.
