The 23-year-old, originally from Tura Beach, moved to the ACT in 2014 to commence his studies at the University and lived on campus for the first two years of his degree.
Mr Wu is no stranger to Parliament House where the ceremonies were held. He started working there in December as a technical engineer for the telephony system and said the IT skills he learnt during his degree helped him secure his position.
His family travelled from Tura Beach to attend his graduation. His girlfriend, former Pambula resident Megan Davidson, also saw him graduate, with Mr Wu watching her collect a Bachelor of Laws in an earlier ceremony.
More than 2,400 students received their degrees in eight ceremonies with many of these coming from rural and regional areas.
Students graduated ready for careers in law, software engineering, science, education, graphic design, midwifery, sports studies and more. The University also celebrated its first cohort of Bachelor of Physiotherapy and Bachelor of Pharmacy graduates.
Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Deep Saini congratulated the students on their success.
“Our greatest source of pride comes from one asset which matters more than any other— our students and graduates. We are justly proud of our 79,000 plus alumni and hope that you will always consider yourself part of the University of Canberra.”
More than 17,500 students currently attend the University of Canberra with a strong emphasis on work-integrated learning giving students valuable experience in the workplace before they graduate.
