As the sun rose over Merimbula Lake this morning around 500 people gathered to commemorate those who have served.

The day was particularly special for Pambula local Emily Claxton who was fortunate enough to return to the area as an Army representative in the official catafalque party.
“It is a privilege to come here and do this,” Ms Claxton said. “Not many people get to do the services back in their home towns. It’s a real blessing.”
The former Eden Marine High School graduate, who delivered the speech on behalf of her school at the 2015 Anzac Day service, said it was a different feeling participating in the service in an official capacity.
The 19-year-old is currently studying at the Australian Defence Force Academy.
Her father Peter Claxton said she comes from a family full of servicemen including her grandfather who fought in World War II.
He said he couldn’t be prouder to see her return to the area.
“It’s marvelous to see her back home and in her uniform,” Mr Claxton said.
