The Pambula Beach kid was one of more than 30 local children and teenagers who spent the day at the skate park celebrating the ‘awesomeness’ of skateboarding.
Bega Valley Shire Council combined with skating educators, Ownlife to run a bunch of ‘All Aboard Skateboard’ sessions at Bermagui, Bega, Tathra, Pambula and Eden this week.
The primary focus of these free workshops was to introduce local girls and boys to skateboarding in a safe and supportive environment.
Kids of all abilities from first timers to experienced skaters came together to learn new skills and make new friends.
Young Kai said the workshop was lots of fun, even for people like him who had been skating for a long time.
“I’ve been skateboarding for about 60 years,” the four-year-old said.
Ownlife, skateboarding teachers Richard Flude and Rachel Delphin got the kids’ blood pumping as they taught them the fundamentals of skating.
“Spreading the fun vibes of skateboarding, teaching some of the fundamentals and having a blast with it,” Richard said.
Rachel spent much of the morning working with young girls who were trying skateboarding for the very first time. She said it was important for the girls to learn the correct stance, get a feel for skateboarding and to really focus on having a good time.
Eight-year-old Valentina Robinson of Merimbula attended the workshop for two days, in Tathra on Tuesday and Pambula on Wednesday.
“Skateboarding is really hard but is really fun too,” Valentina said.
