For the past five years the Pambula Motorfest has been one of the biggest events on the Sapphire Coast calendar regularly bringing in large crowds of locals and visitors.
The Motorfest is also a huge supporter of the local community with all profits, totaling more than $90,000 in five years, being donated back to local organisations.
But Pambula Motorfest secretary Wendy Lyons said the decision was made around one month ago for the much-loved event to become biennial.
“There are few reasons for this but the main one is to ease the financial strain on our sponsors,” Ms Lyons said.
The only reason the Pambula Motorfest has been so successful in the past is due to the generosity of local businesses and with more than 60 sponsors each year Ms Lyons said it can be hard for businesses to find the money year after year.
“We have also found that people who travel will either come to the Pambula or Cooma Motorfests and with the Cooma Motorfest being a biennial event and on this year we have decided it would be better for the Pambula Motorfest to fall on the alternate year,” she said.
Ms Lyons also mentioned that another reason behind the big decision was the lack of volunteers.
Ms Lyons and her husband Kevin both work tirelessly throughout the year, alongside fellow committee members, to make the event a success but they said it would be a lot easier if they had more volunteers.
“It’s a lot of work and there are really only seven people doing it all so it puts a lot of pressure on volunteers, most of which are also working full time,” Mr Lyons said.
With no 2017 Pambula Motorfest, Ms Lyons said the committee members are now freed up to put more time and effort into making the 2018 Pambula Motorfest the best one yet.
“We already have a few surprises and things we are working on. Our goal is to make it the biggest show on the Far South Coast.”
