Centre manager Kerryn Wood said she was expecting to receive $1200 so when she found out it was really $5,500 she was absolutely delighted.
The $5,000 will go towards to the running of the Discovery Centre’s annual Marine Science forum which takes place in Merimbula in June each year.
Ms Wood said this year’s conference – titled Marine Extremes: From the beach to the deep – is covering a broader theme then usual which she hopes will entice more people to participate.
“The forum is not just for scientists, it’s for everybody interested in the marine world,” she said. “We’re hoping local high school students and members of the community would think about coming along and learning from the experts.”
Pambula Community Bank chairman Colin Dunne said it was one of the largest contributions the bank has given and he hopes it helps the centre to thrive.
