Out wide, it looks like the kingfish are finally picking up slowly with charter skipper Nick Cowley on Nitro getting 10 keepers and a bunch of rats on Saturday.
Nathan Mass, Maureen Burn and Aaron Graeber and the rest of the staff from Barbeques Galore, Batemans Bay went out fishing in Narooma on Sea Eagle out of Narooma Sunday, also bagging some legal kingfish and all up got 20 keepers, three snapper and lots of morwong. They sent us a photo via our online fishing page, so thanks guys!
There continue to be reports of large schools of baitfish in Wagonga Inlet at Narooma.
Dash from Narooma Ocean Hut Compleat Angler reports some big tailor in Wagonga around the mid 50cm mark and up to 2kg. They were taking plastics and hardbodies but interestingly were not on the surface but below feeding on the bait balls.
We hear that local legend fishing guide Stuart Hindson, who grew up in Narooma and attended Narooma High School from 1985 to 1988, was yesterday inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame. Well done Stuey and more on that next week.
NSW Farmers meanwhile is encouraging people spending time on the coast over the Christmas break to be ‘oyster aware’ these holidays. NSW Farmers’ Oyster Committee chairperson Caroline Henry said as a consequence of more activity and people around estuaries, oyster farms can be damaged, polluted or stolen from.
“Please slow down when passing oyster farms, and don’t tie up on any oyster farm infrastructure. Water quality is everyone’s responsibility.” To report oyster theft and water pollution, call Fisheries Watch on 1800 043 536 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
