Manager of Merimbula Tourism Nat Kirby said they’re expecting around 10,000 people at this year’s family fun event which will feature live music and plenty of kids entertainment. 

“This outstanding regional event could not take place without the generosity of local businesses, and the major sponsorship of the Bega Valley Shire Council and East Coast Radio which covers the cost of the fireworks and music,” she said.

“However, we still need to raise funds to cover the costs of the discounted services such as additional toilets, power, fencing and more.”

Ms Kirby is searching for volunteers to be ‘bucket shakers’ to take gold coin donations at the gate from 4pm until 9.30pm.

“We also appreciate any help with the clean up after the midnight fireworks. We also need some support to staff the First Aid tent.”

Ms Kirby said she was keen to let people know that this is a regional event and although it takes place in Merimbula she is hoping people from all over the shire will attend. 

The event will be managed by Merimbula Tourism with Crystal from Power FM live as the MC until the 9.30pm fireworks and 2SEA taking on the role of bringing the town into the New Year.

It’s a family fun event with kids’ entertainment starting at 5pm with the Great Zamboni and a balloon bending fairy. Along with great music there will be food and coffee available, jumping castles and the fun shop.

“We’re excited to be showcasing local talent this year - Merimbula Music School and E.A.D.C (Eden Marine Music Students) will kick off the live music, followed by King Kong’s Hat to play us into the 9.30pm fireworks and Slipways to play us into midnight,” Ms Kirby said. 

NSW Police, RFS and Ambulance will be on duty to ensure the night runs smoothly.

“The Sapphire Coast NYE spectacular is a very popular event on the Sapphire Coast calendar and simply wouldn’t take place without their support,” she said.
