Snug Cove Developments, was set up by four families from Eden, Pambula and Merimbula last year to buy the prime 8000-plus square metre waterfront site in Eden.
Considered one of the best pieces of real estate of its size on the Far South Coast, the local group plans to create a new commercial and residential hub.
Co-owner of the development, Neil Rankin, said they would love for the hub to feature local businesses, giving them the opportunity to tap into the blossoming cruise ship industry.
“I’ve lived in Eden all my life and as a commercial builder I see the potential in it,” Mr Rankin said. “We don’t want to let this piece of land sit idle, for years parts of Eden have been bought and sold with nothing happening, we want to develop the land and see Eden grow.”
The site is zoned B4 mixed use which allows a variety of business ventures including commercial premises, hotel or motel accommodation, shop top housing and passenger transport facilities.
The new precinct will comprise commercial buildings along Weecoon Street – which will connect with the main spine of the wharf extension – residential buildings along By Street, with public space and pedestrian links, to be developed over three stages.
Co-owner of Snug Cove Developments Mark Baker said they have been working closely with Council which is “positive about the development going ahead”.
The four local families have enlisted the help of Eden based real estate agent Inhouse Real Estate to help with the expression of interest campaign.
Inhouse Real Estate co-owner Adam Donaldson said he hopes the Snug Cove Development will help to build an industry around cruise ships in Eden, thus significantly boosting the local economy.
The EOI will remain open until the end of March 2017, after which a Development Application will be drawn up, and if all goes well, construction will begin at the end of 2017. For details call Inhouse on 6496 4101.
