Jacque was born in Pambula to Elsie and Don Whitby on June 20, 1937, the sixth child of a family of 11. She attended the local school for the entire length of education at that time, staying behind of an afternoon as she got older to help sister Coralie to clean out the school to earn a bit of pocket money.
After leaving school she begun working at the Pambula Hospital doing domestic duties, until she married three years later and moved to Bega to live.
Later in her married life she worked at the Bega Co-operative Store in a position she loved, among the garden and flowers section for a number of years, then onto the Bega Hospital where she enjoyed caring for the aged and infirm until she returned to Pambula to care for her mum until she passed away in 1985.
Jacque took on many past times after that, she loved gardening and was very excited when Des decided to rebuild the old home. She moved in with Des and Rod so she was in her element.
She was totally dedicated to her street gardens and could be found in the early hours of the day watering, weeding, planting or anything that took her fancy.
She also loved the Pambula and Merimbula Op Shops where she made many good friends.
Jacque’s other love was the movie theatre where she enjoyed a great quiet time. She also loved travelling be it by Bega Valley coaches or cruising with her sisters and friends.
Jacque’s fondness of animals had her always befriending some stray and owning several little dogs during her lifetime. This was also shown by her donations to the Woollies bin in Merimbula.
Jacque was a caring loving sister who will be sadly missed as she leaves a big space in our hearts.
