Tournament director, John Rheinberger said that the new format proved to be a good decision.
Previously the tournament had run from Sunday through to Thursday or Friday, depending on weather conditions. However this year organisers changed the format to a Friday start running through until Monday. The new times allowed more working tennis players to take just two days off from work and still be part of the tournament.
“Entries were up to 150 players compared to last year 120 and weekend tournament enabled more younger players to participate,” Rheinberger said.
“The weather was perfect for the first three days, and a little mid-morning rain on Monday delayed the morning mixed events, however all matched were completed by 4pm.
“On Saturday we held a very successful trivia night with local player, Michael Quinlan entertaining everyone by posing the questions while dressed in full legal outfit. I must also thank the kitchen crew, headed by Anthea Parker, who did a wonderful job throughout the tournament,” Rheinberger said.
